Parenting sometime means tears

By Deb Tollefson

Parenting is the most emotional thing we go through for most of our lives. Yes there is the joy but sometimes we find out later this joy is also combined with painful tears. We go through all the stuff to raise them and sometimes one child becomes independent and does just great on their own, goes to college, graduates, and starts a successful life. Another child may be just the opposite and quit college after you have co-signed for a student loan, they decide to move out and run up their credit cards so they have to move back home because they can't afford their bills so you take them back.

I know many of us out their are going through the same sort of things. Our parents didn't do much to help us so we don't use the tough love approach thinking if we do show our kids love by helping them with everything they will get a better job or maybe have things easier than we do but we find out the hard way that we should not have helped them and made them stand on their own. By then it is too late, the student loans are due, you are laid off and can't pay the amount the child can't because all they can get is a minimum wage job. Now your finances, marriage, your entire life is a huge stress because you thought you were doing the right things and in then end you have to pray that things will turn around some day.

For all of us out there struggling with job loss, student loans, divorce, and all of the things that put a stress on our lives that are combined with raising children, I still believe that even with the tears and struggles, my children are the best things I have accomplished in my adult life and even though some do better than others the future will get better.

I do keep hope for a brighter future and for all of you struggling out there too, we did out best at the time, not all of it was right and not all of it was wrong. It may take years to recover from a broken heart but our prayers will we answered some day. I just keep busy with hobbies and visit my friends more as they are going through the same struggles and sharing stories makes yours seem not that bad sometimes.

Just keep smiling !!!! IT WILL GET BETTER
